Record year: 24 islaa fellows for 2026 🎉
ISLAA is pleased to announce 24 Fellows for its 2026–2027 program, the largest cohort in its history.

Selected from 143 applications, this group will receive $150,000 to support new research on modern and contemporary Latin American art. The program has expanded from 13 to 24 fellowships in response to the strength of this year’s proposals.

This cohort also launches the ISLAA Latin American Fellowship, supporting researchers across the region with funding and access to resources in New York.

ABOUT ISLAA FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The ISLAA Fellowship Program supports scholars whose research expands the study of modern and contemporary Latin American art. It combines direct financial support, an intensive research residency in New York, and sustained access to primary sources at the ISLAA Research Center in Tribeca.
Fellows work with ISLAA's archives, library, and research collections to advance projects that can reshape the field. The program supports research at different career stages and connects scholars across Latin America and the United States through a shared intellectual community.

TWO FELLOWSHIP PATHS

ISLAA Latin American Fellowship
Launched in 2026, the ISLAA Latin American Fellowship supports scholars based in Latin America and brings them to New York for focused research at the ISLAA Research Center. The inaugural program includes three categories that recognize distinct stages of scholarly development: Senior Scholar, Postdoctoral Scholar, and Doctoral Scholar.
The fellowship responds to a central need in the field: meaningful access to archives, research resources, time, and international exchange. By supporting scholars based in the region, ISLAA strengthens the production and circulation of knowledge from Latin America.

ISLAA Research Fellowship
The ISLAA Research Fellowship supports PhD students based at universities in the United States whose work contributes to doctoral dissertations and advances original scholarship on Latin American art. Fellows conduct primary source research in New York and develop projects grounded in the holdings of the ISLAA Research Center.
The program gives emerging scholars direct access to materials that may be unavailable elsewhere and encourages close engagement with overlooked artists, archives, exhibitions, institutions, and intellectual networks.

PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
The ISLAA Fellowship Program is led by Agustín Díez Fischer, Senior Manager of Research and Archives. Under his direction, the program connects fellowship research with ISLAA's broader work in archives, publications, exhibitions, and public programs.
Through this integrated approach, ISLAA builds an international research community around primary sources and expands the ways modern and contemporary Latin American art is studied, interpreted, and shared.
