The ISLAA Research Grant aims to expand access to research funding by supporting emerging scholars. Grantees receive funding to conduct novel investigations into themes, geographies, and chronologies of modern and contemporary art and culture from Latin America, the Caribbean, and the diaspora.

During our open call for proposals, we invite MA and PhD students enrolled in graduate university programs worldwide to apply. Research must be directed toward the completion of master’s theses or doctoral dissertations, peer-reviewed journal articles, or conference presentations. Research activities may include consulting resources at libraries, museums, and archives; interviewing artists, curators, and scholars; arranging studio visits; and/or conducting field research. The Research Grant will award grantees an award of up to $2,500 USD. Grantees will be chosen by a selection committee of scholars and art professionals.
